Amarone...explained!

It's time to explain the world class wine called Amarone! Not that I'm it's biggest fan..nonetheless, the education could prove helpful to the rich and famous. Using about the same blend as Valpolicella, which is 65% Corvina, 25% Rondinella and 10% Corvinone, Amarone undergoes a special process. Just before harvest of the grapes for Valpolicella, the best bunches are removed and stored in drying racks for 4 months at certain humidity and temperatures. This increases the intensity of the fruit, as it becomes more raisiny, when it is finally pressed. Kept for 3 years in specific oak barrels, then stored another 6 months in the bottle, the resulting very smooth quaff has potentially 16.5% alcohol. Perfect for grilled meats, game, bbq or any evening where driving is not in the mix. Brunelli has been making Amarone since 1936! Prices range from $35 to $3500...but now you know why!
